Top Ten Dog Skin Diseases.

Allergic Dermatitis / Skin Infections Due to Allergies.


Dogs can have allergic reactions to grooming products, food and irritation caused by pollen in the environment such as a flower or an insect bite. Dogs with allergies can scratch endlessly and cause skin infection. Korticosteroid can help overcome the itching at the wound, but the most effective is to identify and avoid trigger allergies in dogs.


Fungus infection.


If your dog can not seem to stop scratching the ear or lick her toes, then ask your vet to check if there is a fungal infection. Symptoms include irritation, itching or skin changes color. This infection usually affects the feet or ears, where the fungus has a comfortable place to grow. Fungal infections are easy to recognize and most can be treated with Topical creams. In some cases, the veterinarian may prescribe oral medications or drugs bath.


Folliculitis.


Superficial bacterial folliculitis is an infection that causes sores, bumps and scabs on the skin. This skin disorder is easily seen on a short-haired breed of dog / short-hair. In the long-haired dogs / long-hair, the most obvious symptom is a dull coat and the bottom falling out with rough skin. Folliculitis often occurs along with other skin problems such as scabies, allergies or injuries. Treatment with oral antibiotics can and antibacterial ointments or shampoos.


Impetigo.


Another type of bacterial infection, impetigo is most common in puppies. This infection causes pus-filled bubbles that can rupture and crusty. These bubbles usually grow on the belly lint. Impetigo is not so serious (rarely become seriously) and can be treated with a topical solution. In a few cases, the infection may spread or persist.


Seborrhea.


Seborrhea causes the dog's skin becomes oily and cause dandruff. In some cases, this is a genetic disease which began the dog is young and lasts a lifetime. However, most dogs with seborrhea, dandruff grow as a complication of other medical problems, such as allergies or hormonal abnormalities. 

In this case, it is important to treat the cause so it will not happen again.


Ringworm


Despite its name using the word "worm", the disease is not caused by a worm but by a fungus. The term "ring" is derived from the circular patches that can form anywhere, but are often found on the head, feet, ears and front legs of dogs. Inflammation, rough patches and hair loss often surround the infection. 

Puppies younger than one year are the most vulnerable and this infection can spread quickly among dogs. There are a variety of anti-fungal treatment.


Alopecia / Hair Loss.


Anyone who has a dog at home, know that the dog hair can fall out. The amount of loss depends on the breed, age and environment. However, sometimes stress, poor nutrition, or illness can cause a dog's hair to fall out more than usual. If there is abnormal or excessive hair loss for more than a week or you find any parts bald, contact your veterinarian immediately.


Mange / Ringworm.


Mange is a skin disorder caused by tiny parasites called mites / mites. Sarcoptic Mange also known as canine scabies / ringworm dog, easily transmitted between dogs and can also be transmitted to humans, but the parasite can not survive in the human body. 
The symptoms are constant itching, red skin, sores and hair loss. Ear, face and feet are most commonly infected areas. Demodectic Mange can cause balding, scabs and sores, but it is not transmitted between animals or humans. Treatment depends on the type of mange itself. 
Change Color / Texture Skin 
Changes in the color or texture of the fur on the dog's skin can be a warning sign of some common problems with metabolism or hormones. Be sure to ask your veterinarian about a significant change in your dog's fur.


Acral Lick Granuloma


Also referred to as acral lick dermatitis, is a skin condition caused by a dog licking at one area without stopping or redundant. Most often occurs in the lower front part of the foot. This area is difficult to heal and cause sores and itching that can lead to the dog kept licking spot / same area. Treatment with finding ways to continue to hold so that the dog does not lick, either by using a topical solution or Elizabeth collar.


Skin tumors.


If you find a hard lump on the skin of your dog, consult a veterinarian. Dogs can develop malignant tumors in their skin. The only way is to ensure the presence of cancer is with a biopsy of the tumor. 

If the lump is small enough, the vet may suggest to remove entirely. For tumors that have not spread, this may be the only treatment needed. 

Immune Disorders / Immune Disorders 
In a few cases, wounds or skin infections that can not be cured can indicate the presence of autoimmune disorders in dogs. One of the most well known is Lupus, a disease that affects dogs and humans. Lupus is an autoimmune disorder which means the body's immune system fight / attack its own cells. Symptoms include skin disorders and kidney problems. It can be fatal if not treated.
