China bans dog meat for sale in the Market

 The Chinese government is planning to ban the consumption of dog and cat meat in order not to anger the foreign visitors in Beijing Olympics later. From the first, the dog meat to be a part of culinary tradition of the people of China in Guangzhou.

As quoted from the pages of CNN, the government has ordered dog meat is pulled from the local markets. Guangzhou Government warns sellers to stop selling dog meat before the Asian Games to be held this year.

Prohibition of eating dog and cat meat is part of a proposal to tighten laws for animal welfare. Individual offenders punishable by a shortage of 15 days and a small amount of fines. While business people who sell the meat proved to be fined up to 500 thousand yuan (US $ 73,500).

The consumption of dog and cat meat is not only found in China proper. In Korea, the meat animal was usually served. While the cat meat can be found in the menu of the Chinese, Vietnamese, and in some regions of South America.

This new law has the support of pet owners whose numbers have increased in China. With the standard of living and increasing income, more Guangzhou residents are investing in raising animals. "I would never eat dog meat," said Louisa Yong, the owner of a dog. "The action was very cruel."

But dog meat sellers have a different opinion. "Dogs that are raised in the house, it should not be eaten," said Pan, a butcher who only gave his last name. "But that is raised to be eaten, we can eat," said Pan.

Professor Chang Jiwen of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, including one that supports the proposal. "Cats and dogs are loyal friends of man. The ban eating dogs and cats will show that China has reached a new stage of civilization," said Chang.
