Flat chest syndrome in puppies (Swimmer Puppy Syndrome)

This syndrome can occur due to abnormalities in the ribs that causes changes in the anatomy of the chest cavity. Named Swimmer Puppy Syndrome is more due to the position of the dog who is always in a prone position with all legs leads to lateral (away from the body) and the head can not be lifted.

the tummy.

The cause of this syndrome is still debated, there are some experts who argue that this syndrome is caused by genetic abnormalities and some say has nothing to do with genetics in animals experiencing this syndrome. Aside from genetic causes, many opinions that say that the syndrome is caused poor nutrition, abnormal metabolism and / or poor cage conditions (too slippery). No type of dog breeds that are specifically experiencing this syndrome but some argued puppies from large-bodied breeds like rottweiler, pitbull, bulldog, labrador retrievers and golden retrievers are reported to have experienced this syndrome. But do not reduce the likelihood of other dog breeds can experience this syndrome.

This syndrome can be detected by looking at the anatomy of the clinical symptoms (body shape) of puppies and some other clinical methods such as examination of the nervous system, blood tests and blood chemistry and histology of brain tissue to differentiate from other diseases with similar clinical symptoms.

Prognosis and the syndrome depends on the condition of puppies but in some cases if all legs indicated experiencing this syndrome, the prognosis will be very small. Many cases the puppy will die of pneumonia due to abnormalities of the dog during swallowing.

Actions that can be performed in the case of this syndrome can be done on a regular physiotherapi such as swimming, stimulation of the legs and neck and no precautions that can be done.
