Aspergillosis In Dogs


Aspergillosis in dogs is a disease caused by the fungus Aspergillus fumigatus which attacks the respiratory tract through the nose and follow-up can lead to infection by bacterial decay if no immediate treatment. The fungus is commonly found in the environment is dirty, dust, contaminated food and drink contaminated. There are two types of Aspergillus infection, the nasal infection (usually located around the nose) and infection desseminated (location can spread throughout the body not only around the nose only).

Causes Disease:


     Caused by the fungus Aspergillus fumigatus found in contaminated food, contaminated drinking water, dirty environment, dirt, dust, etc.


Disease symptoms caused:

     - Frequent sneezing
     - The pain and swelling in the area around the nose
     - Bleeding from the nose
     - Decreased appetite
     - The nostrils of mucus, pus, blood
     - Increased body temperature
     - Usually accompanied by vomiting


Disease Diagnosis is done:

     - Looking at the history of clinical symptoms appear
     - Perform a physical examination
     - Laboratory tests with nasal swabs, fungal cultures
     - Do rhinoscopy method, x-ray, urine analysis


Treatment is carried out:

     - Provision of antifungal drugs
     - Giving antibiotics to treat infections that arise secondary
     - Giving medicine stop bleeding from the nose
     - Provision of anti-inflammatory drugs
     - Giving vitamin to overcome decreased appetite


Prevention of Disease:


     - Feeding is still clean (not expired)
     - Provide clean drinking water
     - Keep the cage and equipment used
     - Management of hygiene in the environment around the cage
